Dates set for Eagles & Agriculture 2011

Dates for the 9th Annual Eagles & Agriculture gathering have been announced by the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Authority. The 2011 event will take place from Friday, February 25, 2011 through Sunday, February 27, 2011.

The annual event, which draws hundreds to the Northern Nevada destination to view and learn about eagles, raptors and ranching, promises to continue to provide one of the finest birding events anywhere. Friday night’s reception starts the fun, and the ‘Eagle & Ranch Tour’ on Saturday morning continues as the centerpiece of the event. Additional offerings are expected to include the always popular ‘Owl Prowl’, a second year of the ‘Highways & Byways Raptors Tours’, the ‘Carson River Rafting Tour’ and the two day ‘Photo Workshop’.

The event is made possible by the cooperation of agencies including the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, Western Nevada Resource Conservation & Development Office of the USDA, Audubon Society, The Nature Conservancy, Washoe Tribe, Carson Valley Conservation District, Nevada State Parks, Douglas County and a long list of private sector partners; including ranch owners, agricultural suppliers, hoteliers, birders and tour operators.

The partners work together in support of the main goals of Eagles & Ag, which are to encourage the conservation and prosperity of ranching in Western Nevada, promote the benefits agriculture provides wildlife and the community, teach participants about eagle habits, habitat, and life cycle and the history of agriculture in Carson Valley and demonstrate an example of agri-tourism that will potentially enhance profitability for local agriculture operations and businesses.

Hot August Nights visits Minden Park

On the beautiful sun filled day of August 5th, 2010 Minden Park was the Official Lunch Stop for the Hot August Nights Poker Run. With over 900 registered vintage cars scheduled to visit the Carson Valley this provided visitors and residents the chance to see the vintage cars of Hot August Nights without the crowds. It was a step back in time as the vintage cars lined the streets around Minden Park and along Esmeralda Avenue. With 50's, 60's and 70's music provided by McClain's Mobile Music and DJ Service and variety of food provided by our local restaurants and service clubs the day was complete for both visitors and participants of Hot August Nights. See you in 2011!
